It’s a little detail, but the correct depth is close enough that the wallet sits flat without wedging in, and after months in the box, that can make all the difference in whether the wallet looks new or not.

This depth is generally something that is best determined by measuring a sample wallet, and not just on the spec sheet, since discrepancies of a few millimeters can be found when the wallets are loaded with the actual cards. Too deep and the leather leans on a corner, too shallow and it compresses the spine every time the lid closes.
